The goal of the CEJ’s Responsible Sourcing Committee is to create connection and collaboration among those who produce and sell jewelry materials and those who use them, in a context that centers shared values and concerns.
This collaboration must reflect the needs of stakeholders including source communities where many of our jewelry materials come from, CEJ members, material suppliers, and the larger jewelry community. Living our values means we can’t, as an organization, recommend specific suppliers or products. CEJ recognizes that it is challenging for jewelers and consumers to navigate marketing terms that can be misused, are misleading, or may become meaningless with overuse, such as “sustainable”, “ethical”, and “responsible”.
CEJ is a meaningful resource for suppliers and jewelers at any stage of their responsible sourcing journey.
CEJ’s Responsible Sourcing Committee, co-chaired by Susan Crow and Jared Amadeo Holstein, have launched Gemstone Supplier Conversations – a guide intended to provide starting points to assess the ethical positioning of the various suppliers and players you interact with in the mining, metal and gemstone industries.
