Radical Jewelry Makeover
Radical Jewelry Makeover (RJM) is an international community jewelry mining and recycling project focused on education and collaboration. It brings together jewelers, working together to examine mining issues while making innovative jewelry from recycled sources.
It raises awareness of the connection between mining, metalsmithing, activism, collaboration and art. It involves volunteer "miners," "smelters," "refiners," jewelers, and metalsmiths working together to create a new and transparent supply chain.

Each RJM installment is centered around a learning community, whether that be a single school or a number of educational institutions within a specified region working together. There are many stages to the project beginning with a donation drive and Launch Party! Once donations are collected participants will sort the materials and begin making new work from the load, celebrated in a final gallery exhibition.

You will find Madeover Jewelry hand fabricated by jewelers around the world. Materials used to make these pieces were mined from donors’ jewelry boxes, creating a transparent supply chain. We innovate and transform unwanted, broken, mismatched jewelry into new, fresh work, challenging how jewelers source materials and asking consumers to alter their habits of consumption by supporting and wearing this work!
RJM Artist Project
The RJM Artist Project is another venture that falls under the Radical Jewelry Makeover canopy. Artists who have participated in a past RJM Installment are invited to dive more deeply into the motivations and questions of Radical Jewelry Makeover. The artists create a series of work using donated jewelry left over from previous donation drives.
Rejewelry Competition
We want to invite newcomers into our RJM community and welcome back past participants to utilize this circular supply chain of materials. We take donations of broken, unwanted, or out-of-date jewelry and redistribute it into the hands of makers. This competition is a creative challenge for those looking to engage in the tangible redistribution of already-mined persistent raw materials full of creative potential! Join our movement!

The Education Committee builds a community that champions the most sustainable practices in the metalsmithing and jewelry fields. Through questioning and interrogating accepted standards, we foster curiosity to find best practices. We disseminate this information and build calls to action through projects such as Radical Jewelry Makeover, International State of Practice, So Fresh + So Clean, and Criticalsmiths.
