To truly understand the impact of our diamond sourcing, we need to know not only where our diamonds come from but also the realities people and environments face along the way. Issues like environmental degradation, labor rights violations, community displacement, and other human rights abuses including sexual abuse persist and this is why responsible sourcing, which includes engaging producing communities and committing to solutions together, is so important.

Our speakers for this session will be Farai Maguwu, Executive Director of the Center for Natural Resource Governance in Zimbabwe and Hans Merket, Research and Policy Manager at the International Peace and Information Service (IPIS) (both CNRG and IPIS are members of the Kimberley Process Civil Society Coalition (KPCSC)).
